AV Lipedema Care is a women‑focused telehealth practice in Delaware that is dedicated to recognizing, explaining, and treating lipedema. We combine medical expertise with lived experience to create a safe, judgment‑free space for every woman that AV Lipedema Care has the privilege to serve.

Lipedema is a chronic condition that causes an abnormal and often painful buildup of fat, typically in the legs, hips, buttocks, and sometimes arms or abdomen. It primarily affects women and can be triggered or worsened by hormonal changes such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. Unlike ordinary weight gain, lipedema fat does not respond well to diet or exercise, which can lead to frustration, discomfort, and emotional distress. Although lipedema is thought to be chronic and progressive, with the right support, treatment options, and lifestyle strategies, women with lipedema can manage symptoms, reduce pain, and improve mobility and confidence.

The exact cause of lipedema is not fully understood, but research suggests a combination of genetics and hormones play a role. It often runs in families and may be triggered or worsened by hormonal changes, such as puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. While lifestyle factors alone do not cause lipedema, maintaining a healthy routine can help support overall well-being.

Many women with lipedema notice: • Fat that builds up in the legs, hips, buttocks, or arms, often feeling out of proportion • Tenderness, sensitivity, or discomfort in the affected areas • Swelling or easy bruising, sometimes with a heavy or fatigued feeling in the legs • Fat that resists diet and exercise, leaving you feeling frustrated Recognizing these signs early can help you find support, manage symptoms, and feel more in control of your health.

While there is currently no cure, several treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life: Conservative therapies – Manual lymphatic drainage, compression garments, gentle exercise, and a balanced diet to reduce swelling and protect joints Medical support – Pain management and guidance from specialists to improve daily comfort Surgery – Liposuction designed for lipedema can remove affected fat, reduce pain, and improve mobility Lifestyle & self-care – Gentle movement, skin care, and emotional support are essential for long-term wellness Early intervention and individualized care can make a real difference, helping women with lipedema live comfortably and confidently

AV Lipedema Care focuses entirely on providing personalized, high-quality care for women with lipedema. We do not accept insurance so that we can: • Spend more time with each patient, understanding your unique symptoms and needs • Offer evidence-based, individualized treatment plans without restrictions • Provide a seamless, compassionate experience without the limitations and delays of insurance approvals While we understand insurance coverage is important, our self-pay model allows us to prioritize your comfort, health, and long-term well-being. Many patients find this approach allows for more thorough, attentive care and faster access to the treatments that truly make a difference. AV Lipedema Care has opted out of Medicare and Medicaid and can not see patients with these types of insurance due to the law. Patients pay for their services at the time of appointment scheduling. AV Lipedema Care specializes in the care of lipedema and does not provide any primary care services. It is an expectation that patients have their own primary care provider to handle such needs.
